The Chemistry Department is saddened by the recent death of Professor Emeritus of Chemistry Mitchell Thiel. Dr. Thiel died on Monday, October 25 at the age of 96.

Professor Thiel began his work at Southern Missionary College in 1966, and continued teaching here at Southern until his retirement in 1993. He was the General Chemistry professor of current Chemistry Department faculty member Rhonda Scott and many other alumni of the Chemistry Department. During his retirement, he maintained a strong relationship with the Chemistry Department, and we will happily remember his excitement and enthusiasm for his fellow faculty members, his former students, and the field of chemistry.

We look forward to resuming our relationship with Dr. Thiel at the resurrection day. Until then, we will miss our colleague and friend.
