Donald Lebron Brown

June 29, 1923 - July 26, 2016

Donald Lebron Brown, 93, of Ooltewah, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 26, 2016. He was born in Rossville, Georgia on June 29, 1923 to the late, Clarence Aaron & Eva Viola Justice Brown. He lived the earlier part of his life in the North Georgia area before moving to Ooltewah in 1952. Don proudly served 3 years in the Navy during W.W. II, obtaining the rank of 1st Class Radar Operator in PT Squadron 20. He attended Emory & Henry College, Emory, Virginia where he received his Bachelor of Science degree and met and married his wife, June. Don came back to the Chattanooga area in 1950 and worked in several industries until he went into the educational field. He received his Masters Degree from UTC, but took some required courses from UT Knoxville, MTSU Murfreesboro and UGA Dalton. He taught at Central High School on Dodds Avenue and Lakeview High School. He was the Guidance Counselor and taught History & Spanish Classes. He became the first Principal of Lakeview Junior High School. Mr. Brown left academics in 1977 to become Superintendent of the Chattanooga River Terminal before finally retiring in 1985. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church on Lakewood Drive and in his later years attended Brainerd Bapstist Church in Chattanooga and became a member of the Friendship Class. Don served his whole life in the church; being a Deacon, teaching Sunday School Classes and acting as Choir Director when needed. Don loved hunting, fishing and painting, but on Friday nights he loved Pickin & Playin at Johnny’s Garage. Don was a member of the Tennessee Dahlia & American Dahlia Society and successfully showed Dahlias all over the United States. He was an editor of the Bulletin published by American Society. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by brother, Leroy Brown and sister, Mary Sue Brown Cross Konertz.

Survivors include his loving wife of more than 69 years, June Rice Brown; brothers & sisters-in-law, Edwin & Dorothy Brown, Anne & Jim Carter, Bob & Frances "Chappie” Rice, Bill Rice; nieces & nephews, Linda Cross, Charlene & Wayne Hardeman, Diana & Murray McGahee, Paige & Bill Fretwell; Robin Palmer, Joe Carter, Jon & Chris Carter, Hope & Paul Fishburn, Dean & Jennifer Rice, Linda Phifer, Judson & Pamela Rice, Mike & Patricia Brown and numerous extended family & friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, August 1, 2016 in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel with Bro. Jeff Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
